Project implementation is the stage where all the planned activities are put into action. Successful project implementation is critical for delivering the solution according to key deliverables. This plan should also address areas of risk and identify strengths and opportunities that should be exploited to efficiently implement a project. Project implementation encompasses three activities which are interdependent: planning, implementation and monitoring. Dependencies:

Monitoring:

Project monitoring is important to ensure that the project implementation is carried out in the right order and in accordance with the project schedule. This is a continuous process that should be established right from the start. Monitoring activities should have been dealt with during the project implementation planning stage in consultation with the stake holders. The monitoring process helps the implementors to measure how well targets are being achieved and provides feedback to determine the next stage of action should the project activities fall short of the desired objectives.

The Relationship between planning, implementation and monitoring:

Successful project implementation relies on understanding the relationship between these three key variables. The project implementation planning process involves taking the necessary time to investigate and establish guidelines for the project implementation. The planning articulates how the implementation and monitoring should be carried out, as guided by the project implementation document. The monitoring process provides the necessary feedback to either support the implementation process or adapt to accommodate changing project requirements. There is a mutually reinforcing relationship between the three variables. Each requirement cannot be done in isolation without consideration for the role of the other two.
